Kitchen on a budget – before and after

I’m super excited to share this project. Not because its the most fancy kitchen I’ve ever worked on, or because it show cases cutting edge design. But because it was a challenge, and because the update has made a huge difference to the lovely lady who cooks there!

My client had been waiting 5 years for a new kitchen when she asked me to help. The existing kitchen had been done on the cheap by the previous owners. It was a small space that wasn’t well designed or practical, and my clients were very keen to change all that (check out some of the before shots below).

Many people assume that getting help with interior design and decoration is for those with huge budgets, not true. The brief for this was to create a modern, functional space with as much storage as possible. The client was after a kitchen that was a joy to cook in, and wanted to include her favourite colour – blue. Oh, and budget was minimal.

We very quickly ruled out making any structural changes to the space, and decided to re-use most of the appliances. This allowed us to spend a little more on the cupboards. The devil was in the detail in terms of joinery design for this one, cramming as much storage into this small space as possible.

In terms of aesthetics, sometimes keeping things simple can create the biggest wow factor. A colour palette of a very clean white for the walls and joinery, charcoal floor tiles and handmade denim blue tiles in the splash back provided sharp contrast and pops of colour.

I’m really happy with the result, and more importantly the client is delighted!
